Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)

About Us

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is the regional transportation planning, financing, and coordinating agency for the San Francisco Bay Area's nine counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. MTC allocates regional, state, and federal transportation funds, updates the Regional Transportation Plan (Plan Bay Area), and coordinates participation across government and resident stakeholders. The agency also operates as the Bay Area Toll Authority and the Service Authority for Freeways and Expressways, and manages programs including FasTrak, Clipper, and the 511 Traveler Information System. MTC is governed by a 21-member policy board and works with federal, state, regional, and local agencies to support transportation and environmental quality across the region.
