About Us

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the largest municipal housing agency in the nation. Established in 1978, HPD preserves and develops affordable housing, enforces housing maintenance standards, and engages neighborhoods in planning processes across the city. The agency's mandate spans tenant protection, new affordable housing development, and code enforcement to maintain housing quality and neighborhood stability throughout New York City.
