Preservation of Affordable Housing

About Us

Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is a national nonprofit real estate organization headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, that develops, preserves, and manages affordable rental housing across the United States. The organization operates in more than a dozen states and the District of Columbia, owning and overseeing over 140 properties with more than 13,000 income-restricted homes for low- and moderate-income families, seniors, and individuals. POAH frequently serves as developer, owner, and long-term steward of multifamily communities.

Its work includes acquisition and renovation of at-risk affordable housing, new construction, and community revitalization. The organization collaborates with public agencies, nonprofit partners, and private financing sources to structure projects and maintain long-term affordability.

POAH also integrates resident services, sustainability practices, and property management oversight to support stable housing outcomes and vibrant communities. Its projects often utilize LIHTC and other structured financing tools to deliver and preserve affordable housing at scale.
