About Us

SHCLA is a community land trust operating in Alameda County, California. The organization acquires residential properties and structures long-term ownership and control to support housing stability for individuals with serious mental illnesses.

SHCLA operates through two primary models. In one, it acquires homes and master leases them to licensed adult residential facility operators serving residents with serious mental illnesses. In the other, SHCLA acquires homes and facilitates the creation of collectively owned cooperatives or condominiums for residents who receive financial support from aging parents. Across both models, SHCLA focuses on maintaining affordability, long-term stewardship, and appropriate housing arrangements for a population with specialized needs.
