Role Summary
As a Senior Housing Underwriter, you will shape the future of Vermont's affordable housing by evaluating complex funding applications for a variety of housing projects including multifamily rental, shelters, and other specialized housing. You will be part of a dynamic team serving as a critical bridge between statewide housing development goals and the financial reality required to bring them to life.
What You'll Do
- Dive deep into real estate fundamentals, assessing the strength of development teams, local market dynamics, and capital funding structures
- Conduct underwriting and prepare formal recommendations for Board action
- Monitor construction budgets and support developers to bring new homes on line on time and on budget
- Help manage organizational grants, ensuring non-profits have the technical support and funding they need to thrive
- Take a strategic approach in partnership with developers committed to building quality, perpetually affordable housing
- Use field insights to refine VHCB's procedures, ensuring they align with the State's evolving housing needs
- Conduct special research for the Legislature and represent VHCB to community groups and state agencies
Required Qualifications
- Commitment to VHCB's dual-goal mission
- Substantial prior experience (5+ years preferred) in housing development and real estate finance, feasibility analysis of housing projects, and multi-family housing underwriting
- Strong financial and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, municipalities, housing development groups, and state agencies
- Previous experience in architecture, construction, real estate development, service supported housing, training and technical assistance, and working with federal funds
- Valid Driver's License or other ability to travel throughout the state as necessary
Compensation
$75,000–$82,000 commensurate with experience
