Role Summary
The Associate will play an integral role in supporting the Related Affordable Foundation's grantmaking, scholarship program, and community impact work. This position will provide support throughout the full lifecycle of grants—from research and due diligence through award distribution, program implementation, and evaluation—while ensuring compliance with 501(c)(3) rules and regulations. The role will be based onsite full-time in the New York office and will report directly to the Foundation's Executive Director.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams—including Affordable Acquisition, Construction, Portfolio Management, and Property Management—to align grantmaking initiatives with organizational priorities
- Support end-to-end grantmaking and scholarship operations, managing grants and the scholarship program from initial outreach through implementation and evaluation
- Advance grantmaking efforts by identifying potential nonprofit partners, conducting due diligence, coordinating applicant follow-up, and supporting grant award processing, distribution, and monitoring
- Conduct research and landscape analysis to inform strategic decision-making, including insights on prospective grantees, priority impact areas, and emerging sector trends
- Maintain and update a robust database of community-based organizations to strengthen the Foundation's network and outreach pipeline
- Evaluate select grant proposals for mission alignment and project feasibility and prepare recommendations for leadership review
- Oversee grant payment and tracking processes, ensuring accurate documentation
- Organize and participate in routine check-ins with grantees to support grant reporting and strengthen partnerships
- Serve as a responsive point of contact for nonprofit partners, property staff, and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely and relationship-centered communication
- Support program planning and implementation by working with Foundation team, nonprofit partners, and property management staff
- Synthesize and communicate project updates to Foundation leadership, offering insights, progress summaries, and recommendations
- Support board operations, including preparation for board meetings and drafting monthly board reports
- Serve as an ambassador for the Foundation, representing its mission and values to internal colleagues, partner organizations, and community stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take full ownership of projects and outcomes
- Comfortable using technology to source partners, summarize documents, and increase the effectiveness of team operations
- Positive, "can-do" attitude, self-motivated, and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated project management ability spanning from project initiation to completion
- Strong problem-solving skills, identifying the root causes of issues and leveraging prior experience and education to derive creative and impactful solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
- High level of receptivity to feedback and instruction

Preferred Qualifications
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in nonprofit management, philanthropy, affordable housing, public policy research, or program development
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Flexibility to work outside standard business hours as needed. Some travel is required.
Compensation
$80K–$90K
